Sean Perrin holds a Bachelor of Music Performance degree from The University of Calgary, where he studied clarinet with The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra’s principal clarinetist, Steve Amsel. Over the course of his degree he developed a passion for contemporary music and was recognized for his creative recital programming and technological aptitude.
Sean is an active local performer and, in addition to solo recitals, has performed on numerous occasions with The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO), The Festival Chorus, The University of Calgary Wind Ensemble, The New Music Ensemble, Alberta Winds, and The Calgary Stampede Show Band.
Notable achievements with the CPO include numerous live performances, live CBC broadcasts, and two professional CD recordings.
Additionally, he has performed marching percussion on stage with Keith Urban and Shania Twain, and first clarinet for the Calgary leg of Diana Krall’s “Quiet Nights” tour.
Also an experienced teacher, Sean has taught private clarinet and percussion lessons since 2006, and clinics (group lessons) for The Calgary Board of Education, The Calgary Catholic School District, and numerous private schools in and around Calgary. For the summer of 2009, he was hired by The Department of National Defense to teach clarinet and music theory lessons at the Penhold Air Cadet Summer Training Centre.
Sean uses Buffet Festival and R13 clarinets, a Vandoren M13 mouthpiece, Clark Fobes barrels, Daniel Bonade ligatures, and Légere synthetic reeds.
